Amarillo ISD trustees have approved the District’s partnership in a scholarship program that gives students of all four AISD high schools, and potentially students from anywhere in the Panhandle who wish to transfer, the opportunity to attend Amarillo College and earn up to 60 credit hours at no cost to them after they graduate from AISD.

After listening to several public comments on the issue, the Board adopted a resolution and approved an agreement to be a partner, along with Amarillo College, the Amarillo Area Foundation, and the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation, in the Thrive Scholarship program.

Last November Amarillo voters passed a $100 million school bond that focuses on four main areas of construction and renovation across AISD: safety and security ($11.5 million) classroom additions ($25.3 million), facility updates ($35.3 million) and restoration and replacement ($27.9 million).
More than 200 summer reading events are already on the calendar as Amarillo ISD launches a three-month, district-wide summer literacy focus.
