State Testing Programs

S.T.A.A.R.

State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (S.T.A.A.R.) measures a student's mastery of the state-mandated curriculum, the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (T.E.K.S.).

All eligible Texas public school students are assessed in mathematics in grades 3-8; reading in grades 3-8; writing in grades 4 and 7; science in grades 5 and 8; and social studies in grade 8. Eligible students may meet testing requirements with Spanish versions of the S.T.A.A.R. assessments, available in grades 3-5. Students in grades 9 - 12 will take the S.T.A.A.R. End-of-Course tests (E.O.C.). The E.O.C. tests consists of 5 course-specific tests including Algebra I, Biology, US History, English I, and English II.

S.T.A.A.R.-Alt

S.T.A.A.R.-Alt is an assessment based on alternate academic standards and is designed for students with significant cognitive disabilities receiving special education services.

T.E.L.P.A.S.

The Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (T.E.L.P.A.S.) assesses the progress that grade K-12 ELLs make in learning the English language.

T.E.L.P.A.S. assesses second language development in the domains of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
